Random thoughts and observations:
Having Mt. Anthony's "A" team there and Methuen provided good depth for a small tourney. MAU always reloads and Methuen, though relatively young, wrestled with great intensity. The Barn has helped the Methuen guys notch it up, and Jeff Cole (OR) has benefited from offseason wrestling with The Barn!
In NH D2 watch out for Con-Val: they fill every weight class with solid kids. They may vie with Plymouth for D2s this year, depending on how the end of the season unfolds.
Bishop Guertin has several quality wrestlers, including the two Fokas brothers and Tyler Proctor in the lower weights; their upper weights are tough! Now to fill a couple more weight classes . . .
At 103 Chris Schramm (MAU) was very sound. Cole Fokas (BG) should be ranked in NH D1, as should Kyle Brissette (CV) in D2 behind Tyler Dustin (PLY).
At 112 you had the VT1 & VT 2 from New Englands last year going at it in the finals, but this time Stratton prevailed over Weyant. Sarith Has from Methuen gave Stratton an 8-4 battle, too.
119 was deep and featured freshman Paul Sughrue (John's and Kevin's little bro) beating Mike Bradley (MAU) in the semis and then handling Mitch Fokas (BG). Word has it Sughrue will be dropping to 112 where he should be even stronger. Good years to come for Coach James! Mitch Fokas worked a 4-0 dec over Greg Jones (JS) who should do well in D2 this season.
125 Tyler Proctor (BG) is going to toss a few people this year! Come ready to play if you go against him!
130 Cole (OR) is strong enough to stay at this weight, but will likely move down to 125 or even 119 later.
135 The Ben Price-DJ Clogston bout would have been fun, but an injury intervened.
140 CJ Doherty (METH) might have deserved OW if there was one -- either him or teammate Paul Sughrue. CJ majored a sound Jake Essx (CV) in the semis and then outmuscled Jimmy Zupko (MAU) in the finals! Well done!
Gabe Horton (PLY) was up 5-2 on Essx in the consi finals before being DSQ'd. Good rematch pending . . .
Casey Barney (PLY) vs. Anthony Corliss (CV) might be the 152 D2 finals later this year!
There's some sheetrock work to be done in the Christy livingroom with three stout brothers going at it a home! BG is fortunate to have all them! Cody Wilkins (JS) avenged an earlier 6-4 loss to Methuen's Scott Delrossi in the consi finals.
Chad Brouillet (CV) looked very good at 171, pinning the #1 seed (Bouchard, MAU) in the semis. And Winnisquam's Eoin Audet looked much improved. Two kids that should do well in NH D2s.
Jake Bissell (PLY) gets it done at 189. He pinned Jon Queen (CV) in the semis, then took care of business in the 3rd period of the finals.
Matt Kaplan (FRK) should figure in the mix to win MOCs at 285, if he can keep getting quality bouts. He moves well for a guy his size.
