Patriots perfect at Roswell (Ga.) summer duals

Days after attending a team camp in Alabama members of the Mount Anthony Union High School capped a summer road trip with a win at the Roswell (Ga.) Summer Duals held Friday and Saturday outside of Atlanta.

The Patriots went a perfect 8-0 and posted several lopsided wins, including a 62-6 result against Roswell, a Classs-5A quarterfinalist. In the semifinals, Mount Anthony beat Gilmer, Georgia's reigning Class-3A champion, 46-18. In the championship, MAU toppled Vestavia Hills (Ala.), 60-6.

"The entire team wrestled well," MAU coach Scott Legacy said. "It was a great summer trip and an awesome experience for our kids."

Seven Patriots went undefeated at 8-0: Ben Price (145 pounds), Kyle Fletcher (120), Troy Gassaway (113), Chris Schramm (120), Zak Hale (126), Cameron Foucher (182), Spencer Foucher (195) and Jesse Webb (285). Dylan LaFountain (106) and Tyler White (152) each went 7-1, while five others were 6-2.

At Vestavia Hills earlier in the week, the Mount Anthony Union Middle School squad defeated a team of all-stars from Huntsville and Birmingham, Ala., 91-74, and went on to beat the hosts, 99-35.

Gassaway went a perfect 6-0, while Tyler Mattison (7-1), Damon Young (6-1), J.J. Whitesell (4-2), Ashton Schaefer (4-2), LaFountain (4-2) and Tyler Raetz (3-1) all put together standout performances.
